Kurt Jackson has once again contributed a piece to the Royal West of England Academy (RWA) Secret Postcard Auction, a fantastic annual event and a vital fundraiser for the gallery. 

Kurt has joined hundreds of artists who have submitted unique, postcard-sized images for you to bid on. 

The twist? The identity of each artist is a secret until after the auction closes, making every purchase a fun surprise.

Your bid will directly help the RWA continue its mission to support artists and foster a lifelong journeys with art in Bristol.

What the RWA says about the auction:

“We’ve got another amazing line-up this year, with hundreds of artworks to bid on. Each one measures roughly 14 x 19cm (unless otherwise stated), is signed on the back and accompanied by a certificate of authentication.

“Since the artists remain a secret until after the auction, you can either guess who the big name artists are or just buy what you like. Bidding on each work starts at just £40, which is a very reasonable price for a unique piece of art, and if it turns out to be by an internationally famous artist, it may be worth multiple times more!”

You can view Kurt Jackson’s canvas Beauty and the Beast as part of the Royal West of England Academy Annual Open Exhibition.

Beauty and the Beast is a large mixed media and collage piece originally exhibited as part of Jackson’s Mermaids Tears’ collection which focussed on the resin pellets or nurdles from plastic manufacturing (colloquially known as mermaids’ tears) that are ever-present on our beaches, blighting the tidelines and impacting wildlife. The heavy collage applied to Beauty and the Beast is all from material found on Cornish beaches.

The RWA’s renowned Annual Open Exhibition will be returning for its 169th year with a stunning variety of work from emerging and established artists.

This dynamic and varied exhibition invites painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, installation and mixed media submissions and is a showcase of some of the most exciting artists from across the country and beyond.
