“What is a sea flower? A plant by the sea? Or a plant of or in the sea?
In Biodiversity, Jackson opens windows onto different locations across the UK and explores the spectrum of plant and animal life found there. From train tracks to ancient woodland, peat bogs to urban streams, ecological processes come under the scrutiny of his painterly eye.

Through paintings, sculpture, and mixed media works, Jackson shows what an ecologically rich world we still live in, but also how things are changing.

The varied collection of work which makes up Biodiversity extorts the viewer to look again at the natural riches that surround us, even in the most unexpected of places. For example, collages such as Bioblitz of Vauxhall Bridge Road, London explore manmade environments by combining found rubbish with plant specimens and sketch-like paintings, demonstrating Jackson’s zoologist training and artists’ observational skills. The work is made both in situ, allowing for an environmental involvement through chance and serendipity, and in the studios.

By urging visitors to stop and look, appreciate and marvel, Jackson is using the greatest tool at his disposal to encourage us all to cherish and protect the earth for future generations.

Kurt Jackson’s Biodiversity runs until July 7th and the newly reimagined Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery, River Street, Truro, TR1 2SJ.

In this stunning new series of works, Jackson has aimed to tackle the different aspects of this beloved tree.

From individual trees and oak habitat, to their seasonal changes in dress, the leaves and acorns, the striking and robust architectural forms and structure, he explores the role this tree has, and continues to play, in our shared historical and cultural narratives.

Kurt Jackson returns to The Base, Greenham this autumn with this never-seen-before exhibition, Oak, which opens Friday September 27th.

In this stunning new series of works which incorporate painting, sculpture, drawing and printmaking, from small postcard-sized to large tarpaulin-sized pieces, Jackson has aimed to tackle the different aspects of this beloved tree. From individual trees and oak habitat, to their seasonal changes in dress, the leaves and acorns, the striking and robust architectural forms and structure, he explores the role this tree has, and continues to play, in our shared historical and cultural narratives.

Historical sites, nature reserves, ancient woodland, clifftops, river valleys, city centres, estuaries and industrial sites have all been the locations for the making of this work.

Kurt Jackson has spent over forty years working on, next to and waist deep in, many different rivers – painting, drawing, following and observing these dynamic and enigmatic waterways.

Kurt Jackson’s River, his first exhibition at The Base, Greenham, draws together works from a selection of his many different river projects, offering a glimpse of a variety of locations, each with their own topographic and geophysical diversity. This retrospective exhibition explores Jackson’s varying approaches, in terms of medium and scale, as well as the changes and evolution of his technique over time.

As the ancient saying goes “no one can touch the same river twice”; the river changes and so do we.

Kurt Jackson celebrates the lifesaving efforts of the RNLI through an ambitious new series of paintings, installation and mixed media work.

RNLI Cornwall, which has just opened at the Jackson Foundation gallery, St Just, Cornwall features over 75 paintings varying in scale – from postcard sized pieces to large canvasses measured in metres – that capture the familiar sight of the charity’s blue and orange lifeboats nestled into Cornish harbours and coastlines, as well as the lifeguards at the centre of Cornish beaches culture.

A selection of the paintings is of the old Penlee lifeboat station which Kurt has captured as it was left after the disaster that claimed sixteen lives in 1981. A loss still felt today. A poignant reminder of the sacrifice made.

For the duration of this exhibition, the Jackson Foundation will be holding a prize draw to win a Kurt Jackson painting worth £3,500, with each ticket purchased equalling one entry and the winner randomly selected at the exhibition’s conclusion.

100% of the proceeds from the prize draw will be donated to support the RNLI.

NEW EXHIBITION: Art. Music. Activism. Kurt Jackson, Glastonbury and Greenpeace.
March 21 – May 9, May 19 – August 15 2020.

Kurt Jackson has been Artist-in-Residence at the festival for twenty years, raising over £250,000 for the festival charities Oxfam, Greenpeace and WaterAid via sales of his Glastonbury works.

This immersive exhibition looks to share a selection of his work as Artist-in-Residence as well as celebrating the 50th anniversary of both Glastonbury Festival and Greenpeace.

These paintings and sketches show festival royalty looking out across their massed ecstatic armies, veiled travellers from the Sahara cradling their guitars like electric scimitars, lost revellers fluttering around the lights of a doughnut stall and panoramic landscapes of the vast faerie city of mud and scaffolding, neon and wood smoke that swirls across the Vale of Avalon after summer solstice.

Kurt Jackson has a new two-part show opening with Messums Gallery this December.

The first instalment of this exhibition – shown in two parts at both Messums London and Wiltshire galleries – traces the origins of the River Stour – his ‘father’s river’ – on the east coast of England and explores the relationship between life and death and flora and fauna, before turning to another river source: this time in the Southwest where the River Nadder springs and begins its descent into Salisbury.

His second river journey also has familial connections, following the course of the Fonthill Brook, one-hundred yards from Messums Wilshire where these paintings will be shown. It was here in Wiltshire that Jackson’s maternal grandparents settled to raise a family before the war.
