Kurt Jackson has contributed to a new Cornwall Hospice Care’s Where Art Meets The Wave project. All of the boards can be bid on in an online auction.

This art project sees Cornish artists take one of 40+ wooden belly boards, and use their own inspiration and skills to turn these simple boards into desirable works of art.

Thursday 25th September will see the culmination of the project with a final exhibition of all the artworks together coinciding with the final day of the auction.

Kurt Jackson was a contributor to Around Cornwall in 38 Churns, a project and online auction created to raise funds for Cornwall Hospice Care whilst showcasing Cornwall’s artists.

Each churn was decorated by a Cornwall based artist and put on display at various venues across the county while the online auction was running over the summer. On September 21st all the churns were collectively displayed at Truro Cathedral to celebrate the auction finale.

Kurt Jackson’s churn sold for £6,500 with the auction was a whole raising £48,021 (not including any match-funding or gift aid) – what a result!

“It took my breath away when the figure was revealed. I’d hoped we might reach £30,000 but this is amazing and I can’t say a big enough thank those to those who bid, for their generosity and support.”

Sue is the volunteer Chair of the Cornwall Hospice Care Newquay Fundraising Group and has supported Mount Edgcumbe Hospice and St Julia’s Hospice for the last 38 years. “This project has been extremely hard work but worth every moment. A huge thank you to all the artists who kindly agreed to paint a churn, our many sponsors and the hospice team who supported me over the last six months.”

Oli Hoare is the Head of Fundraising at Cornwall Hospice Care: “It was extraordinary to be at the Cathedral on Wednesday night. In the fifteen minutes before the auction closed it went very quiet as people took to their phones to put in last minute bids along with many others elsewhere who were also bidding furiously. It’s still soaking in that this extraordinary project raised £48,000 for our charity. It’s a fabulous amount and everyone involved should be extremely proud of what they’ve jointly achieved. It costs around £600 a day to care for a hospice patient so this project has funded 80 patient days at our two Cornish hospices. We’re overwhelmed at the generosity of the artists and the auction bidders and I’d particularly like to say a very big and heartfelt thank you to Sue Dennett for realising her dream and raising such a huge amount.”
